a day in the life of a TIS 1-8 grader

8:15-8:45AM - Morning Meeting
​A time of connection and community building

8:45-9:00AM - Walk
A time to get outside, enjoy nature and each other, and get ourselves geared up to learn for the day

9:00-10:00AM - Literacy
A time to work on our phonics, phonemic awareness, handwriting, writing, analyzing, and reading skills based on ND literacy standards

10:00-10:30AM - Morning Recess
A time for unstructured free play, preferably outside when weather permits

10:30-11:00AM - Reading
A time for our teachers to read aloud and students to participate in comprehension discussion, inferring, vocabulary and reasoning practice

11:00AM-12:00PM - Inquiry
A time to explore one of our 6 inquiry blocks of the school year. Students participate in Socratic seminars, brainstorming, and engaging and meaningful projects

12:00-1:00PM - Lunch Recess and Lunch
A time for more outdoor play followed by an enjoyable amount of time for students (and staff!) to eat their homemade lunches and connect with one another

1:00-2:00PM - Math
A time for focused math skill practice, exposure, and mathematical application based on ND math standards

2:00-2:15PM - Afternoon Recess
A quick break towards the end of our day for students to engage in play and movement

2:15-3:05PM - Rotating Seminars
A time for our Learning Adventures, specials (Wellness, Art and Music), STEM workshops, or our All-School Friday Meeting

3:05-3:15PM - Reflection
A time to reflect on the day and share thoughts on our weekly reflection question, based on our school's mission statement
